Primary objective
Provide executive level strategic advice and management on Health, Safety and Environment issues to the Rum Jungle
Rehabilitation Project (RJRP). Provide strategic leadership and management to the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
teams and support in contractor management.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Government (NTG), in partnership with the Commonwealth, have been developing a leading practice
rehabilitation strategy for the former Rum Jungle mine site since 2009. Stage 3 of the rehabilitation project will deliver the
complete construction and works program. The workplace is characterised by competing priorities and time constraints. It
requires focussed commitment to outcomes and considerable personal resilience and flexibility.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide executive level strategic advice and management of project risk and compliance to support achievement of
project objectives.
- Provide executive level strategic advice and management of HSE matters, including leading the development,
implementation and management of HSE systems, strategies and projects.
3. Take a lead role in monitoring, reporting and influencing the HSE performance on the RJRP, including providing executive
level strategic advice to support long term project objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to lead the development, implementation and management of HSE systems, strategies and
programs in a mining or related context.
2. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience of strategic HSE risk and compliance management and ability to
advise Executives on these.
3. Proven executive level leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead, manage and provide direction, development
and mentoring to operational teams and staff, including Aboriginal staff.
4. Executive level oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills. This includes
ability to accurately analyse and clearly communicate complex and technical issues in plain language for a variety of
stakeholders.
- Demonstrated negotiation and collaboration skills including the ability and confidence to interpret, manage and influence
stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in project delivery in a construction or mining environment.
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage pressure, change and competing priorities.
- Current NT Driver's License or ability to obtain.

3. Demonstrated experience directly working with regional and/or remote Aboriginal communities
