About the roleWe are currently seeking an Events Officer Casual – First Peoples Identified to assist in the delivery of Merri-bek's diverse and dynamic festival program. This has been identified to increase First Peoples event delivery support across the festivals program at Merri-bek. You will be part of a small team of casual staff that assist with the delivery of the program by working on the ground at events in a variety of roles including stage management, artist liaison and front of house. You will also have opportunities to assist with general administrative duties such as contracting, data management, scheduling and marketing.
Reporting to the Executive Producer, Festivals, you will work across the festival program, which includes iconic events such as Brunswick Music Festival, Sydney Road Street Party and Coburg Night Market as well as more community-focused events in Fawkner and Glenroy.
This is a Special Measures position where lived experience and knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is required; therefore, only people who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are eligible to apply, as per section of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
Skills and experience require to perform the role- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Experience in working at festivals or events preferred
- Proven administrative experience, preferably gained in a festival and events environment
- Proven understanding of safe work practices in relation to working at events for identifying and reporting workplace hazards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people
- Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the festival setting.
