About The Role
Merri-bek City Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Public Health and Wellbeing Officer who enjoys contact with the community and working with a dynamic team to contribute to the safety and amenity of the municipality. This officer will work closely with Councils team of Environmental Health Officers to deliver public health outcomes for the community.
The incumbent in this position may perform duties and responsibilities under the provisions of the
Food Act 1984
,
Public Health & Wellbeing Act 2008, Environment Protection Act 2017, Local Government Act 2020, Tobacco Act 1987, Residential Tenancies Act 1997
and other relevant legislation. The incumbent will build upon previous knowledge, experience and academic training under close supervision of the Team Leader Environmental Health and with support also provided by Environmental Health Officers.
Skills And Experience Require To Perform The Role
- A qualification in Environmental Health, Public Health, or infection control.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with people from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare detailed correspondence and reports with minimal direction from senior officers.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, including experience in Microsoft Office products. Knowledge of computer software used in the health area is desirable.
- Well-developed understanding of the purpose and functions of Local Government and knowledge of the public health role of Government Departments and Authorities.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret legislation, codes of practice and standards.
- Understanding of the principles involved in basic field-testing techniques and the ability to undertake fieldwork.
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
