Job Description
Position Objectives
Early Help Family Services is an early help collaborative approach for families with children aged 0- 12 years in partnership with MVAC in Robinvale. This pilot project aims to support parents/carers to provide safe, stable, nurturing environments that enable children's wellbeing and development. Practitioners in their roles will be working alongside universal services to ensure identifying families early that may need support, build capacity, navigate services, and reduce isolation and connection to their child and community. Differing from other programs as this aims to intersect with families early on in their identifying of concerns with their family's needs.
The service model will:
- Be underpinned by partnership s between key stakeholders to provide a place-based response to meet the needs of children and families.
- Uphold a commitment to Aboriginal self-determination.
- Be responsive to people's intersectional needs and identities.
Service delivery expectations:
It is expected that service providers will deliver all of the following interventions:
Individual support - To support parents build their skill s and confidence and support and assist them to navigate to more specialised services or community support s that can assist t hem.
To monitor service delivery and impact, information will be collected on the family receiving the service, the presenting problem, intervention provided and, the outcome for each family. All families who receive individual support will be asked to complete pre-and post -intervention questionnaires. Agreement will be sought from parents to participate in the evaluation of the trial.
Group based delivery - To support families attending the universal service develop their skills and confidence and connect families. Groups may include supported playgroups, or peer support groups. To monitor service delivery and impact information will be collected on the groups delivered and the number of families participating in each group.
Peer support groups - Practitioners will identify opportunities to establish peer support groups for parents for the purpose of mutual support and to build social connection. Practitioners will support these groups to become established and continue to provide support as needed.
Flexible funding - Provided to families experiencing financial crisis, to access specialist services or connect with community supports. The amount of flexible funding allocated to families and the purpose of the funding will be collected using the Family Service Flexible Funding Acquittal Tool. Universally targeted groups - Universally targeted evidence-based parenting education groups for families at the universal service and, also offered to the broader community in which the universal service is located. Groups will focus on topics that are relevant to families and that assist parents to build their skills and confidence to respond positively to parenting challenges. (For example, the establishment of healthy sleep routines are relevant to all).
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications and Experience:
- A person employed at this level will be expected to have specific skills and knowledge required to undertake the role of Early Help Connector and have a clear understanding about Community Development and working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- The Employee will be expected to have previous relevant experience in the field and will be required to hold an accredited qualification relevant to the position at a Degree level.
- The Employee will be expected to have knowledge in evidence-based frameworks that support children's development and wellbeing including knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
- A current driver's licence.
