About the Project

The Australian Museum has recently received a grant for research project on frogs with a focus on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. This project involves the promotion and use of data from the FrogID project, a national citizen science project helping us better understand and conserve frogs. The project lead is Dr. Jodi Rowley. We are looking for a fixed term scientific officer to join this team.

About the Role

The Scientific Officer - Herpetology is responsible for increasing the impact of science at the Australian Museum by undertaking scientific work supporting the Curator of Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Biology in implementing innovative research on the ecology and conservation of Australian frogs. The role will involve field surveys, spatial and molecular analysis, reporting and community engagement.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $75,728 - $116,969 plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

Knowledge & Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct research on amphibians or reptiles.
  • Experience with amphibian and reptile related field and lab work, including molecular analyses.
  • Proven ability to prepare scientific publications and to present research to wide audiences.
  • Research experience with a strong background relevant to the Museum's research priorities
  • Willingness and ability to travel across regional NSW, with a current full NSW driver's licence.

Essential requirements

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or equivalent research experience
