Hatchit Studios is seeking
Digital Operations Officers
to support a
federal government digital uplift program
modernising scientific and research laboratories across Australia.

This role offers a unique opportunity to help laboratories transition into digitally enabled environments — bridging the gap between scientific workflows, data management, and ICT systems to improve accuracy, sustainability, and collaboration.

About the Opportunity

You'll work directly with scientists, engineers, and ICT professionals to analyse how laboratory data and systems operate, then shape and support digital solutions that improve performance and compliance.

The role combines
business analysis (majority)
and
technical liaison
in secure, air-gapped environments. It's ideal for candidates who understand how scientific laboratories function and who can translate those processes into digital improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with laboratory users to identify and implement digital work practices.
  • Map data flows, storage locations, and integration points across systems.
  • Maintain and update software inventories and licence registers.
  • Provide insights and governance reporting to management and user forums.
  • Support ICT change initiatives in laboratory environments, ensuring secure and sustainable adoption.
  • Liaise with scientists, vendors, and ICT teams to align technology with operational needs.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum
    3 years' experience
    in ICT enhancement or digital transformation projects.
  • Experience working in or supporting
    scientific, laboratory, or industrial environments
    (e.g., LIMS, instrument control systems, manufacturing, or research facilities).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid documentation and reporting skills to support governance and compliance.
  • Active Baseline Security Clearance (mandatory).

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications in
    Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, or ICT
    .
  • Knowledge of
    laboratory standards
    (TGA, NATA) and awareness of
    cyber security
    or
    data analysis
    principles.
  • Exposure to
    air-gapped or secure ICT environments
    .
