St Joseph's Catholic School, Mount Isa is a co-educational school offering Prep to Year 6. St Joseph's Catholic School has a state of the art library and an indoor sport and performing arts building. We provide students with specialist teaching in Music, Drama, Instrumental Music, Physical Education, Science, Environmental Education and Cultural Studies. With a Learning Enrichment Team the school differentiates for student ability, helping children develop competence at their own skill levels. Our Indigenous Education Department works with students, families and the community to establish partnerships for successful learning.

St Joseph's Catholic School, Mount Isa is seeking a dedicated School Officer - ASL. This role is a term time, fixed term position completing 25.5 hours per week (5 hours across 5 days) for the remainder of the 2025 school year.

About the role

The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling.

Typical Duties

The typical duties of the role may include:
a. Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activities
b. Assisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading, which may include providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s)
c. Assisting in the support of student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviour
d. Providing practical assistance to students in using classroom technology
e. Performing administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (eg. Printing, laminating etc) and other classroom administrative support
f. Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and tidy classroom environment including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom/learning space
g. Providing routine support to students in relation to their physical needs (eg. mobility support) and personal care (eg. toileting, feeding)

Mandatory Criteria

• Current Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government

• Current Drivers Licence

• Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.

• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.

Desirable Criteria

• No formal qualification is required;, however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent.
