About the role

The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the supervision of a teacher to support students' learning and classroom participation, including those with additional needs.

Townsville Catholic Education upholds standards of conduct to ensure a safe environment for children. We require working with children checks and background references for all involved with children, young people, or adults-at-risk. Our organization is committed to child safety and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse.

Typical Duties

The role may include:

  1. Supporting individual students inside and outside the classroom to participate in learning and activities.
  2. Assisting students with specific learning needs, such as scribing and reading, and providing feedback to teachers.
  3. Supporting student engagement by reinforcing appropriate behavior.
  4. Helping students use classroom technology.
  5. Performing administrative tasks like record keeping and resource production.
  6. Maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
  7. Supporting students' physical needs and personal care as required.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card) before commencement.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Ability to travel within the Diocese.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements safely.

Desirable Criteria

  • No formal qualification required; however, a Cert III in School-Based Education Support or equivalent is preferred.
