The
Assistant Chef
supports the Head Chef in preparing
three meals daily
for approx.
250 people
during our two-month peak season, and smaller groups in spring and fall. Meals include
buffets, family-style service, BBQs
, and options for
gluten-sensitive and vegan diets
. The assistant chef plays a key role in
executing the menu
,
maintaining kitchen operations
, and helping lead a
team of 16 kitchen and dining hall staff
.
This is a
hands-on, fast-paced role
with real impact on camper experience. You'll collaborate closely with the Head Chef, Camp Director, and team, helping to provide
delicious, well-executed meals
that bring people together.
Key Responsibilities
ORGANIZATION
- Create and maintain relevant Action Plans and Procedures for the kitchen and dining staff
- Develop camp menu to be published at least two weeks in advance of each session
- Ordering and inventory management with our primary vendor US Foods.
CULTURE
- Put people first- New and Returning Community Care (Campers, Parents, Families, Alumni, Donors, Staff, Volunteers)
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp community
- Support our International staff & campers
- Attention to detail in crafting an excellent experience in all we do
SAFETY
- Support Incident Report management.
- Support Safety Systems implementation, evaluation, and documentation.
- Stewardship for the future.
- Maintain and enforce community boundaries for a safe physical and emotional experience for all community members.
Essential Functions
–
· Live onsite May - October.
· Manage approximately 16 direct reports
· Deliver breakfast, lunch and dinner to 250 daily
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- 3+ years of experience in a professional kitchen, with some leadership responsibilities
- Comfortable mentoring young, first-time staff in a camp setting
- Strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and follow-through
- A genuine willingness to serve and care for others
- Brings energy, humor, patience, and self-control to the team
- Solid culinary skills and a passion for food
- Experience with ordering and inventory management
