The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead the Surgical Ward within a growing private hospital in Brisbane. This role offers the chance to provide strong clinical leadership while driving excellence in patient care and service delivery.
As NUM, you will play a key role in shaping the direction of the ward, supporting staff, and ensuring smooth operational management in line with hospital goals. This is a permanent, full-time position (76 hours per fortnight).

About You
You are an experienced nursing leader with a strong background in acute care. You bring a track record of effective team management, operational oversight, and a commitment to patient-centred, evidence-based care. Your leadership style empowers and supports staff, while your focus on quality and safety ensures the delivery of consistently high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational management of the Surgical Ward
- Drive the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-focused care
- Manage staffing, budgets, and resources effectively
- Lead and mentor nursing staff, fostering professional growth and development
- Oversee patient flow, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with NSQHS Standards, WHS, and hospital policies
Selection Criteria
- Current AHPRA registration
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a NUM or equivalent leadership role
- Acute hospital experience (surgical highly regarded)
- Strong HR and resource management skills
- Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving ability
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through growth and change
