Nurse Unit Manager - Oncology | Brisbane, QLD

Location: Brisbane, Queensland

Work Type: Full-time, Permanent

Take your oncology nursing leadership to a vibrant metropolitan setting Brisbane offers the perfect balance of professional opportunity and lifestyle — enjoy a warm climate, access to world-class healthcare facilities, a thriving cultural scene, and an easy-going city lifestyle with parks, riverside dining, and beaches just a short drive away.

We're seeking an experienced Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) to lead an oncology nursing team in Brisbane, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You'll oversee daily operations, drive clinical excellence, and foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and professional growth.

This is a rare opportunity to join a service expanding access to comprehensive cancer care — including chemotherapy, radiation, haematology, and clinical trials — while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of Queensland's capital city.

The Opportunity

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, evidence-based practice and operational efficiency within the oncology unit. You'll lead a skilled nursing team, manage resources, and champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage nursing teams to deliver exceptional, patient-centred oncology care.
  • Oversee daily operations, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
  • Uphold compliance with national safety, clinical governance, and quality standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and support professional development across the nursing team.
  • Drive quality improvement, audit, and risk management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, compassionate care.

About You

You are a confident and capable nurse leader with a passion for oncology and excellence in patient care.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
  • Postgraduate qualifications and ≥12 months' oncology/haematology experience, or ≥4 years post-registration (including ≥3 years in a leadership or specialist role).
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage clinical operations, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, quality, and risk management.

Desirable:

  • Experience in radiation therapy nursing.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy/immunotherapy credentialing (eviQ, ADAC).
  • Membership of CNSA, COSA, or ACN.

Why Brisbane & This Role Are Perfect for You

  • Live in a thriving, sunny city with riverside living, nearby beaches, and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.
  • Excellent schools, transport, and family-friendly amenities.
  • Join a modern, well-equipped facility with a supportive multidisciplinary team.
  • Access career development, mentorship, and leadership growth opportunities.
  • Make a meaningful difference to cancer care in a growing metropolitan service.
