What is the role?
The Data Enrichment and Enterprise Prototyping (DEEP) section, part of the Chief Information Officer Command, is responsible for providing enterprise data enrichment services to support the broader AFP. In a rapidly evolving technology landscape, the DEEP section provides tools to manage, triage and transform large volumes of data to support the efficient and timely analysis and review of material to meet AFP operational needs. In addition to providing enterprise data enrichment services, the DEEP team is also responsible for trialling and prototyping new capabilities in order to position the AFP to take advantage of new advances in technology.
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual who can work effectively under limited direction to design, build, upgrade and sustain applications to support data enrichment services at an enterprise scale.
As a Technical Specialist in the AFP you will ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
Technical Specialists provide expert consultancy within their area of expertise to develop and promote technical solutions which support the business requirements of the AFP. A Technical Specialist role does not hold any leadership or financial delegations.
What will you do?
Applications Administration: Lead the design, implementation, support and administration of data enrichment applications, particularly containerised applications running on Docker and Kubernetes.
Deployment: Deploy containerised applications either through manifests or CI/CD toolsets.
User Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and access to applications.
Security Management: Design, implement and manage security protocols to protect applications.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimise resource allocation.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues reported by users.
Documentation: Create and maintain documentation related to usage, troubleshooting, and best practices, SOPs, Wikis, etc.
End-User Support: Provide support and guidance to users.
Collaboration: Work with internal and external and stakeholders to ensure applications meet business and organisational requirements.
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Minimum 5 years' experience in an Applications Administrator or similar role.
Demonstrated experience administering containerisation platforms and containerised applications (ideally using Kubernetes, Docker and OpenShift).
Experience working in Agile Teams using tools such as Azure DevOps.
Experience with LINUX (ideally RHEL8).
Experience with scripting languages (ideally Python).
Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining technical documentation, manuals and policies.
Proven ability to liaise with stakeholders and attend client meetings and technical forums.
Demonstrated experience using container management tools (ideally Harbour Container Registry) and container management best practices.
Demonstrated experience using automation processes and tooling (ideally Ansible).
Demonstrated experience in application security design and security management best practices.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Experience supporting Data Science/AI applications would be an advantage.
Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or related field (IT, Software Engineering, Mathematics, etc) would be an advantage.
Additional Information
When applying you will be asked to nominate your preferred band level, however final determination of the band level you are found suitable for is at the discretion of the panel.
This position has been advertised in all Australian capital cities. Although the position is generally based in Canberra/Sydney, opportunities to work remotely, or from another AFP office in Australia will be considered. A successful applicant located outside the Canberra/Sydney area will be required to travel up to 4 times per year to attend team events.
