Senior Payroll Manager – Strategic Leadership Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Payroll Manager to lead, transform, and deliver payroll operations across a large and complex organisation. This pivotal role provides both strategic leadership and hands-on expertise, ensuring payroll is accurate, compliant, and aligned with business objectives while driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll partner with Executive Leadership, Finance, People & Culture, Risk, IT, and Audit teams to ensure seamless delivery of payroll operations and future-ready transformation.
What you'll be doing
- Lead and manage a high-performing payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely processing across multiple awards and enterprise agreements
- Oversee reconciliations, reporting, and compliance with taxation, superannuation, and legislative obligations
- Strengthen payroll governance, audit readiness, and risk control frameworks
- Drive payroll transformation projects including system upgrades, HRIS implementations, and process automation
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on payroll strategy, compliance, and risk
- Mentor and develop payroll professionals, fostering capability uplift and succession planning
What we're looking for
- 12+ years' payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven success managing payroll in large, complex, and highly regulated environments
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, and industrial instruments
- Demonstrated experience leading system implementations and payroll transformation projects
- Strong audit, compliance, and risk management expertise
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive level
- A natural leader who develops people and builds collaborative, high-performing teams
