Primary objective

Provide specialist care to women and families identified as at risk of or having moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders.

Additional key objectives include providing specialist clinical, and education and training consultancy related to perinatal mental

health disorders to services.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide mental health assessment, treatment planning and brief therapeutic support to women and families identified at being

of risk of or having moderate to severe mental health disorders and needing specialist perinatal mental health care.

  1. Participate in development of collaborative care plans for perinatal women and their families and attend multi-disciplinary

meetings and client case reviews.

3. Provide clinical leadership, liaison and consultancy to mental health services, primary health services and non-government

organisations caring for women and families with perinatal mental health issues.

4. Work collaboratively and develop networks and partnerships with health care professionals and agencies, and community

organisations to achieve best perinatal mental health outcomes for individuals, families and the community.

5. To take part in the delivery of educational and training programs related to the area of perinatal mental health for primary and

secondary health care services.

6. Provide and participate in educational programs for clients and their partners

7. Maintain accurate and up to date records through the use of computer based client information management systems.

8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Recognised degree in Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work, with registration to practice

with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist

or eligibility for practicing membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

  1. Demonstrate experience and knowledge in perinatal mental health care and an advanced level of clinical skills with extensive

knowledge of professional standards, clinical practice and mental health service provision.

  1. Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate education and training programs relevant to the role.
  2. Proven ability to work independently and manage time to effectively organise own workload.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of current legislation, policy, issues and trends in mental health.

  4. Hold a current Northern Territory drivers licence.

Desirable

1. Relevant post graduate qualifications in mental health and related discipline, and recognised training in perinatal and infant

mental health.

2. Proficiency in and commitment to the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical and service delivery

records.

3. Proven ability to communicate and apply skills cross culturally, particularly with Aboriginal clients.
