This is an Aboriginal Prioritised position, a role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

About the Business Unit

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver a major new initiative for victims of crime. The FAS is a landmark reform that replaces the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime.

About the Role

Reporting to the FAS Intake and Triage Supervisor, you will review FAS applications to ensure they are ready for the FAS assessment team to action. You will have direct contact with victims and their support people to ensure applications are complete, including providing advice and support.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Receive and review Aboriginal and other applications for financial assistance in readiness for assessment.
  • Determine priority and complexity of applications.
  • Make interim decisions on immediate victim needs.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Technical Expertise

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed practice, including an understanding of the victim services system and the ability to liaise effectively to improve victim outcomes, applying an intersectional lens in service delivery, engaging in reflective practice, supporting and informing victims of crime, and considering lived experience in improving service delivery.
  • Understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence and sexual assault.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services and/or family violence is desirable.
