The Role

This role is a unique opportunity to provide high-level strategic media and communications advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Executive to ensure corporate objectives are met, and public confidence in the work of the ODPP is maintained.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of media and communications strategies to support ODPP strategic objectives, including providing expertise and guidance on media relations.
  • Managing media relations and responding to enquiries to safeguard the ODPP's reputation and ensure only suitable and approved public messaging is released, including correcting the record where necessary.
  • Building strong constructive relationships with key media and government stakeholders to improve awareness of the ODPP's role and protect its reputation.
  • Overseeing media digital communications, including the ODPP's web and intranet presence.
  • Monitor and report on media and communications activities.
  • Coordinate communications, including the development of communication and change management plans for major projects and the ODPPs Business Continuity Plan and disaster recovery activities.
  • Leading and mentoring the Media and Communications Team to support the corporate objectives of the Office.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, PR or other relevant field and/or extensive experience in media and communications at a senior level.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills including excellent media and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing, and evaluating media and communication strategies for significant internal and/or public programs and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the multi-channel communications needs of a complex government organisation and the policies that shape them.
  • Ability to work in a busy and dynamic environment with a strong ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
