About Us

Better With Company is a new, Perth-based social wellbeing service dedicated to helping older Australians feel connected, supported, and seen. We are launching in September and are building a friendly, passionate team of Companions who believe that connection is just as important as care.

Our mission is simple: reduce social isolation, bring meaningful human connection into people's homes, and give families peace of mind.

About the Role

As a Social Wellbeing Support Companion, you'll provide non-clinical, in-home companionship for older adults. This role is about making everyday life feel lighter, brighter, and more connected — through meaningful conversations, shared activities, and genuine presence.

This is a casual position under the SCHADS Award (Home Care Employee stream). Multiple positions are available (1 per listed regions).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide companionship and conversation during in-home visits.
  • Support clients with hobbies, games, memory activities, and shared interests.
  • Assist with basic technology support (phones, tablets, video calls) to help clients stay connected with loved ones.
  • Facilitate wellbeing check-in phone calls for reassurance and family peace of mind.
  • Encourage independence and respect the dignity and choices of each client.
  • Report any concerns regarding client wellbeing, safety, or environment to supervisors.

Types of Visits You May Provide

As a Social Wellbeing Support Companion, your role will vary depending on each client's needs and preferences. Typical visits may include:

  • Friendly In-Home Visits – Sharing conversation, hobbies, music, or simply providing company to brighten someone's day.
  • Tech Help & Chats – Supporting clients with phones, tablets, and video calls so they can stay connected with family and friends.
  • Memory Games & Activities – Engaging clients with puzzles, board games, music, or reminiscence activities to keep minds active.
  • Wellbeing Phone Calls – Short check-in calls that provide reassurance for clients and peace of mind for families.
  • Keepsake Sorting & Scanning - Organising, scanning and preserving personal keepsakes
  • Life Story Capture - Capturing personal stories in audio or written form

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. You don't need to have worked in aged care before — we provide training. What matters most is your warmth, reliability, and ability to build meaningful connections.

Essential:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Respect for privacy, diversity, and client dignity
  • Willingness to complete mandatory onboarding training (First Aid, CPR, Police Clearance)

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in aged care, disability, or community services
  • Current driver's licence and reliable transport
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

What We Offer

  • Casual employment with Award wages (SCHADS Home Care Employee Level 1 progressing to Level 2 after 3 months)
  • Supportive team culture in a brand-new start-up environment
  • Flexible shifts across multiple regions (choose areas close to home)
  • The chance to make a real difference in the lives of older Australians

Pay Rates (as per SCHADS Award, effective 1 July 2025)

  • Weekdays (Level 1): $38.56/hr + super
  • Weekdays (Level 2): $40.93/hr + super (after 3 months)
