Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Drug and Alcohol Support Worker to provide holistic, harm-minimisation support to community members impacted by alcohol and other drugs (AOD).
Based in Echuca, this full-time role works with clients throughout their treatment journey - from assessment and planning to outreach, counselling, and aftercare.
Please note, this is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position.
In this role, you will:
Provide culturally safe AOD support including assessments, case planning, referrals, and education
Deliver outreach and advocacy to assist clients with daily life skills, wellbeing, and social connection
Collaborate with services like Echuca Regional Health to ensure coordinated care
Transport clients to appointments and support access to rehabilitation or detox services
Promote harm minimisation and deliver community health education around alcohol and drug use
About You:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs or a related field
Experience working with Aboriginal communities in AOD, mental health, or social support services
Strong case management, communication, and cultural sensitivity skills
A current Victorian driver's licence, Police Check, and Working with Children Check
Commitment to empowering clients through respectful, trauma-informed, strengths-based care

Selection Criteria:Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs or a related discipline.
- Police Check and Working with Children Check (mandatory for the role).
- Current Victorian driver's licence.
Skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to engage with individuals affected by psychiatric conditions.
- Demonstrated skills in case management, documentation, and maintaining high-quality client records and reports.
- High level of cultural sensitivity, teamwork, organisation, and the ability to work independently.
Experience
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities, particularly in social, mental health, or AOD support services.
- Understanding of AOD issues and mental illness impacts, including recovery strategies.
- Familiarity with local mental health networks and mainstream support services.
Satisfactory evidence of:
Pre-employment checks not limited to at least two professional referees, proof of identity and qualifications, National police check, Working with Children's, full Victorian driver's license, disclosure of any pre-existing illness / injury and vaccination status in line with Njernda's current policy and procedure, and as applicable – eligibility to work in Australia, professional/regulatory licenses, registration and current good standing, and clearance on aged care banning orders
