About the Role
As our Principal Policy Officer, you will be at the forefront of driving evidence-based policy advice for the Minister, ensuring transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in the administration of animal welfare compliance and enforcement.
You'll lead a team of dedicated policy professionals and technical experts, championing reform and delivering robust, well-balanced solutions that improve outcomes for animals, communities, and government.
In this role, you will:
- Provide strategic leadership and inspire a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
- Shape and oversee the delivery of critical reforms in animal welfare legislation, compliance, and enforcement.
- Engage with senior leaders across government and external stakeholders to influence, align, and deliver impactful policy solutions.
- Represent the Department on key cross-government and interjurisdictional forums, advocating for the Government's priorities and values.
- Drive high-quality decision-making through critical analysis, risk management, and strategic resource planning.
We're looking for someone who is:
- A seasoned policy leader with the ability to navigate complexity and deliver meaningful change.
- Skilled at building strong relationships and forging partnerships across government and beyond.
- A confident communicator and negotiator who can represent the Government with authority.
- Committed to delivering evidence-based, transparent, and forward-looking animal welfare outcomes.
This is more than a policy role, it's an opportunity to lead reform that makes a real difference. If you are driven by purpose, inspired by challenge, and motivated to leave a legacy, we want to hear from you.
