Perth, Western Australia Recovery Oriented Services Full time $45,000 - $60,000 per year
Support Worker
(Community & Home Support)

Are you a compassionate, reliable support worker who values honesty, punctuality, and clear communication? We are seeking a dedicated support worker to provide tailored one-on-one support for an NDIS participant in the Perth metro area. This role focuses on empowering the participant to live more independently and confidently, while respecting their personal space, preferences, and autonomy.

About the Role

You will provide individualised support in the home and community (this is not a group home setting – support is strictly one-on-one). We are seeking a support worker with experience dealing with multiple disabilities such as: Autism Spectrum Disorder, agoraphobia, generalised anxiety, and chronic pain. Your role is to assist, its about the clients choice, control – the participant values autonomy and prefers to initiate interaction at their own pace. Support will centre on capacity building and respecting choice, allowing the participant to lead in decisions while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Community Access & Social Engagement: Accompany to appointments and community activities, providing reassurance and calming support in public settings.
  • Chronic Pain & Mobility Support: Understand chronic pain limitations and assist with mobility as needed. Generally the car needs to be not too low, or not too high and casual offers of assistance with carrying items/shopping are welcome, although not pressured or insistent support.
  • Household Tasks: Support with domestic activities the participant cannot manage alone, such as heavier chores, grocery shopping, and maintaining a safe environment, while encouraging their involvement where possible. But as directed by the client and his profile only.
  • Personal Care (As Needed): Provide prompting and occasional physical assistance with personal care
  • Communication Support: Facilitate communication when needed, including rephrasing information or advocating with providers (with consent). Allow extra time for responses and avoid pushing the conversation.
About the Participant

The participant is intelligent, insightful, and has strong interests in 90s music, board games, and 90s pop culture. They may be quiet or reserved initially and prefer not to be pushed into conversation; once comfortable, they engage more openly. Building trust requires patience, emotional sensitivity, and consistency. They value support workers who are genuine, reliable, and respectful of boundaries. You must be on time, and make direct communication with as much notice as possible of any changes.

Support is about empowerment – coaching through tasks rather than taking over. The participant's goals include increasing independence, building social confidence, and maintaining health while living life on their own terms.

Ideal Candidate Traits & Experience

We are looking for a support worker with experience and qualities including:

  • Honesty, reliability, and punctuality
  • Excellent communication and ability to respect quiet moments ( if there is a lack of conversation, there is a reason, if headphones are on, respect boundaries without getting upset
  • Emotional sensitivity and patience under stress, anxiety and the need to get up and leave, not make a fuss and not draw unnecessary attention to the client or his needs.
  • Respect for autonomy and capacity building
  • Experience supporting people with Autism (ASD Level 2), OCD traits, chronic pain conditions, and trauma-informed care
Shifts & Work Environment
  • Shifts: Currently required on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for daytime appointments. Usually a 9am-1pm + travel and allowances.
  • Additional Hours: Other times and shifts may also be available, including weekends or evenings.
  • Setting: All support is one-on-one, in the participant's private home or in the community.
Requirements - MUST HAVE
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • National Police Clearance
  • First Aid & CPR (HLTAID011 or equivalent)
  • Driver's licence and reliable, insured vehicle
  • Certificate III or higher in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services (preferred)
  • Working Safe Vehicle - Specifically, no vehicles that are to high or too low for participants with mobility issues to enter or exit.
  • Right to work in Australia
  • Punctuality and good communication.
