About the role
As a Property Lawyer at Maxwell & Lancaster Solicitors, you'll be part of a supportive and collaborative team, working closely with experienced lawyers and conveyancing paralegals to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients. You'll play a key role in guiding clients through their property transactions with confidence and care, ensuring a smooth and efficient process from start to finish. We value work-life balance — our genuine 9-to-5 workday and fixed-fee structure mean you can focus on what truly matters: achieving great results for your clients without the pressure of time recording.
Tasks associated with the role
As a trusted member of our legal team, your role includes but is not limited to:
- Independently running your own portfolio of files from start to finish with autonomy and accountability in all areas of property law including: conveyancing, business sales, leasing, easements & covenants, property development and e-lodgments
- An extensive understanding of property law legislation and practice including stamping, PEXA transactions and e-lodgment
- Providing practical, outcome-focused legal advice that aligns with the client's goals and timelines
- Offering guidance and supervision to paralegals and support staff as needed, especially when navigating non-standard matters
- Responding proactively to client and stakeholder needs
- The ability to balance billing expectations and file ownership with the responsibility of supervising others and contributing to overall team success
- Taking initiative to research, self-learn, and problem-solve, to stay ahead of legislation and industry best practices to ensure excellence across your matters
What we're looking for
While all of these are not necessary, it is ideal that you have:
- A current practicing certificate and at least two (2) years experience in property law or conveyancing
- Experience managing matters with growing independence (support is available for more complex files)
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, learning, and client care
- High-level communication skills with the ability to be clear and confident to clients, staff and external parties, whether in writing, over the phone or in person; giving advice that is both practical and solutions-oriented
- Confidence in using digital systems and communicating clearly via phone and email
- A team-first attitude, meaning you step up for clients and colleagues alike
- A willingness to evolve, lead when needed, and contribute to making things better
- (For more experienced lawyers) a readiness to supervise and mentor junior team members and help refine firm processes
- (For more experienced lawyers) the preparedness to help improve processes and legal precedents of the firm
What We Offer
At Maxwell & Lancaster Solicitors, we are committed to supporting the growth and development of our employees. We offer a range of benefits, including:
- An onsite-first environment that supports collaboration, focus, and mentorship, with the flexibility to work remotely when necessary.
- A competitive salary package tailored to your level of experience, plus performance-based bonuses
- A culture where your career growth is taken seriously, with clear opportunities to step up, take ownership, and move forward
- Self-paced and on-the-job training provided, as well as a supportive onboarding experience to set you up for success from day one
- A team of experienced lawyers and leaders who are willing to mentor and share knowledge, especially with newly admitted practitioners
- An environment where we work with you to build confidence, capability, and clarity in your role, because your success is our success
- Access to strong internal systems, pre-established precedents, and a values-led operational framework that makes delivering great work easier
