We have a role available for a Subcontractor Manager to join our Defence division to support this contract. This is a permanent full-time position based that could be based at any of the main defence bases in the Northern Territory.

About the role

You will be responsible for the performance, payment and compliance of external contractors working on this Territory-wide defence contract covering multiple defence bases. You will work closely with the Industry Engagement Manager and local base operatives to align subcontractor activities with overall project objectives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of subcontractors to ensure they meet contractual obligations and project standards and implementing performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Addressing and resolving any issues related to subcontractor payments, including discrepancies and delays.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for subcontractor concerns and escalate issues as needed.
  • Conducting regular compliance checks to ensure subcontractors adhere to all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
  • Facilitating communication and coordination between subcontractors and other project stakeholders to ensure cohesive and efficient work practices.
  • Maintaining accurate records of subcontractor activities, performance metrics, and compliance status, and preparing regular reports.
  • Assisting in managing the budget for subcontracted work, ensuring that expenses are tracked and controlled in line with project financial goals.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and other key stakeholders to foster collaboration and support project success.
  • Identifying areas for continuous improvement and working collaboratively with teams to implement best practices.

About you

Our ideal candidate has experience in a large-scale defence or industrial environment and thrives in an agile setting. You will have proven leadership skills, with the ability to effectively guide and motivate subcontractors in pursuit of project objectives.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in subcontractor management, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing subcontractor agreements, including performance monitoring and compliance checks.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Valid driving licence.

You must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
