Part-Time Senior Accountant
About the Role
As we enter our next stage of growth, Ferrier Industrial is evolving how we manage finance and accounting. We work closely with an external accounting partner and virtual CFO, and this role is the
core in-house link
between that outsourced team and our day-to-day operations.
You'll keep our financial records accurate, produce reports that guide management decisions, and coordinate activity across our sites in
New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam, and China
. The role blends
hands-on accounting
with
business insight and process improvement
—ideal for someone who enjoys connecting the numbers to the real world of manufacturing and logistics.
We're a
nimble, founder-led small business
, not a rigid corporate. Roles can
cross lanes
, and we value people who think about how their work impacts sales, operations, supply chain, and customers. You'll work
day-to-day with the founder
, with the
flexibility and autonomy
to shape how the finance function runs and to do the job in a way that works best for you—while lifting the whole team.
We're also investing in
new business-management and accounting software
, and you'll play a key role in
integrating and optimising these systems
to modernise how we operate. Working alongside our existing accountant (Cindy), you'll bring experience and mentorship to strengthen the team and embed best-practice processes as we scale.
________________________________________________________________________________________
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting across our
New Zealand, Australian, Vietnamese, and Chinese operations
, including supporting our existing junior accounts staff member who handles reconciliations, payables/receivables, payroll, GST/BAS, and month-end processes.
Prepare accurate management reports, forecasts, and cash-flow insights for decision-making.
Collaborate with the external accounting firm and virtual CFO to align reporting, compliance, and budgets across multiple entities.
Help integrate and optimise new
business-management and accounting systems
to modernise operations.
Partner with operations, sales, and logistics to ensure financials reflect real-world performance.
Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and process efficiency.
Mentor the junior accountant (Cindy) and support the founder with analysis and strategic input.
________________________________________________________________________________________
About You
You're an experienced accountant who enjoys variety and seeing how your work directly impacts a business. You're equally comfortable reconciling accounts as you are explaining numbers to non-financial people. You bring both technical skill and commercial curiosity — and you like improving the way things are done.
You'll bring:
5 + years' accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing, logistics, or other product-based industries.
Strong working knowledge of
Xero
and confidence with Excel / Google Sheets.
- Experience managing or consolidating accounts across
multiple entities or countries
.
Sound understanding of GST/BAS, payroll, and general compliance.
Familiarity with ERP/BMS platforms
Clear communication skills and the ability to translate financial results into practical insights for the team.
A collaborative approach with the confidence to mentor others and work closely with the founder day-to-day.
Integrity, initiative, and an appreciation for the flexibility that comes with being part of a growing, hands-on business.
The ability to
speak, read, or write Mandarin
would be an advantage, though not essential — we make good use of AI and translation tools to bridge any language gaps.
Experience with inventory systems, manufacturing workflows, or data-visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI) would be an advantage but not essential. If you meet most of the criteria and think you'd thrive in this environment, we'd love to hear from you.

Role Details
- Position:
Part-Time Senior Accountant
- Employment Type:
Permanent Part-Time (approximately
2–3 days per week
, with flexibility around how hours are structured)
- Location:
Auckland Head Office (with flexibility for some remote work as agreed)
- Reporting to:
Founder and Managing Director (working closely with our external CFO partner)
- Remuneration:
NZD $80,000 – $110,000 per annum (pro-rated for part-time)
— roughly
$85–$110 per hour
, depending on experience
- Start Date:
As soon as practical — we're happy to work around notice periods
This is a
part-time role with high autonomy
— ideal for someone seeking meaningful, senior-level work in a flexible environment. You'll be trusted to manage your own time and priorities while helping shape how the finance function evolves as Ferrier Industrial continues to grow.
________________________________________________________________________________________
Why Join Ferrier Industrial
Ferrier Industrial has been trusted by leading manufacturers across Australasia for more than
40 years
. We've grown from a family-run packaging business into a modern, multi-site operation with facilities in
New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam, and China
— and we're still guided by the same hands-on, practical values that built our reputation.
Joining us means becoming part of a business that's
evolving fast yet remains proudly family-owned and values-driven
. We invest in better systems, better materials, and better ways of working — and we value people who take ownership and think beyond their job title. You'll work directly with the founder, have the scope to
shape the finance function
, and the opportunity to
cement yourself within a long-standing family business
, where good people are recognised, trusted, and genuinely part of the story as we continue to grow.
If you're looking for a role that offers
flexibility, autonomy, and long-term stability
within a close-knit team that respects balance, integrity, and loyalty, this is your chance to help shape the next chapter of Ferrier Industrial.
