The Role
As the APS 6 Procurement and Contracting Officer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering effective procurement and contract management outcomes for the Australian Defence College (ADC). You will lead and support the delivery of complex contract management activities within the educational sector, whilst also providing specialist advice across procurement compliance, contractor engagement, and broader governance functions. This role requires sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to balance competing priorities, ensuring efficient, compliant and value for money outcomes that directly support ADCs mission.
As an APS 6 Procurement and Contracting Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Leading and supporting the delivery of complex contract management activities.
- Providing specialist advice on procurement, contracting and compliance matters to support governance and decision making.
- Managing contractor engagement and relationships to ensure effective service delivery and value for money outcomes.
- Monitoring and supporting compliance with procurement frameworks, policies and legislations.
- Preparing and reviewing procurement documentation, contracts, reports, and related correspondence.
- Building and maintaining productive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen procurement and contracting process across ADC.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. The Australian Defence College (ADC) is the Department of Defence's premier centre for joint professional military education and leadership development. The Headquarters is based in Weston Creek, Canberra and brings together a network of training institutions and headquarters business elements that deliver advanced and professional development to Australian Defence Force Personnel, Defence Civilians and International Partners.
The Procurement and Contracting Management Team form part of the Business Management Directorate at the ADC and plays a key role in enabling the College's strategic education mission. The team is responsible for the delivery of complex contract management activities within the educational sector, ensuring that agreements are effectively managed to support the delivery of world-class training and development programs. In addition, the team provides specialist advice and support across a wide range of activities including contractor engagement and management, procurement compliance, and broader governance functions.
Working in a collaborative and supportive environment, the team engages closely with internal stakeholders and industry partners to deliver efficient, compliant and value for money outcomes that directly contribute to Defence's broader objectives.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be an experienced procurement and contracting professional with relevant transferable skills who can confidently navigate a complex contract management environment. You will have a sound understanding of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules and other relevant legislation and frameworks, with the ability to apply this knowledge to deliver effective and compliant outcomes. The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, along with demonstrated experience of the ability to provide clear and practical advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.
You will also be proactive, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a collaborative team player who can build strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and external partners whilst maintaining a focus on governance, compliance and continuous improvement.
