About the role:
The Senior Epidemiologist is a technical specialist position requiring an in-depth understanding of health-related surveillance systems and infectious disease epidemiology.
This position involves providing expert and strategic advice to senior departmental staff relating to surveillance and epidemiology, contributing to projects, and analysis and reporting of epidemiological data for the networked public health system to guide policy development and strategic priorities.
The successful applicant will have an ability to work flexibly across the Communicable Disease portfolio to support evolving public health and strategic priorities, emerging threats and urgent operational responses.

About you:
- Provide expert and strategic advice to senior departmental staff relating to surveillance and epidemiology. Where required, contribute to the development of surveillance systems to capture, analyse, and report on data relating to these risks. This may include managing intelligence functions during public health investigations.
- Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders and prepare and present detailed reports, briefs, and submissions on complex matters.
- Contribute on epidemiological studies and provide recommendations to guide government policy in response to studies' findings.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate a partnership approach.
- Operate in a complex and demanding environment, exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with senior staff and build positive relationships with key people to facilitate a partnership approach and ensure the effective operation.
- Set clearly defined objectives and priorities and operate accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required, and identify processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal.
- Responsible for preparing high quality and professional communication.
