Greater Melbourne Area, Australia Australian Migration Lawyers Full time

CHIEF OF STAFF

About us

Australian Migration Lawyers is Australia's largest independent immigration law firm, renowned for delivering compassionate, strategic, and results-driven legal services. With a team of highly skilled legal professionals and a national presence, we are proud to support clients through complex and life-changing migration pathways.

As we continue to expand, we are seeking an exceptional individual to join our executive team as Chief of Staff to the Managing Partner.

About the role

The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a high-impact, strategic partner to the Managing Partner (MP), responsible for amplifying leadership effectiveness and driving business-wide priorities. This role is pivotal in ensuring operational excellence, managing special projects, aligning cross-functional teams, and enabling effective decision-making across the firm.

You will act as a force multiplier for the MP - combining strategic insight, executive communication, and operational rigour to support both long-term growth and day-to-day effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the Managing Partner on firm-wide initiatives and priorities.
  • Lead strategic planning processes, including business development, resource planning, and KPI tracking.
  • Coordinate and oversee high-level projects and change initiatives, ensuring alignment with company vision and goals.
  • Manage internal communications and executive briefing materials, preparing presentations, agendas, and reports.
  • Facilitate executive team meetings and offsites.
  • Monitor business performance and operational effectiveness, recommending process improvements where necessary.
  • Liaise with legal, finance, marketing, and HR teams to implement cross-functional initiatives.
  • Represent the Managing Partner in internal and external forums as required.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience in a Chief of Staff, strategic advisor, operations executive, or senior project management role - ideally within a law firm, consultancy, political or professional services environment.
  • Exceptional organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
  • Strong analytical mindset and high emotional intelligence.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, influencing stakeholders, and driving accountability.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced qualifications (JD, MBA) highly regarded.
