Mackay Sugar is seeking a passionate, experienced and safety-focused Cane Rail Supervisor – Bridges/Structures to lead our structural maintenance team. This exciting opportunity puts you at the forefront of maintaining and improving the vital infrastructure that supports Mackay Sugars rail network and supply area.

About the Role:

As the Cane Rail Supervisor – Bridges/Structures, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and minor construction of timber, steel and concrete bridges and structures across our cane rail network. Reporting to the Rail Infrastructure Superintendent, you will lead a small internal team and coordinate contractors to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes.

This role suits someone who is proactive, thrives in a field-based environment, and takes pride in leading by example—especially when it comes to safety.

What You'll Do

• Lead by Example in Safety: Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with WHS regulations and encouraging safe behaviours across all teams and contractors.
• Oversee Structural Inspections and Repairs: Manage the routine inspection schedule and take action on repair needs across timber and concrete assets.
• Supervise Internal Work Crews: Organise daily work plans, allocate resources, and provide on-site leadership to your structures team.
• Coordinate Contractors: Manage civil contractors to deliver works safely, efficiently and within budget. Ensure contractor compliance with site rules and safety standards.
• Contribute to Project Planning: Provide insights on project scope, assist with cost estimates and monitor timelines.
• Maintain Records and Reports: Keep accurate documentation of inspections, repairs, incidents and contractor performance.
• Drive Continual Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices, resource allocation, and contractor engagement.

What We're Looking For:

• Proven experience supervising construction or maintenance teams in civil, rail or structural projects.
• Practical knowledge of timber and/or concrete structures (bridge or rail experience preferred).
• Demonstrated experience as a safety leader—someone who not only follows safety practices but drives them in others.
• Strong communication skills and a confident, respectful leadership style.
• High level of organisational and time management skills.
• Experience working with and facilitating external contractors.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office and maintenance reporting systems.
• Valid Australian driver's licence and full working rights in Australia

Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

• Trade, technical or tertiary qualification in construction, civil or structural engineering.
• Project management and cost estimation knowledge.
• Previous experience working within a rail environment or sugar industry.
