About the Role
We're looking for a capable and hands-on Assistant Manager to join our team in Wyseby, Central Queensland. This is a full-time, practical role ideal for a couple with broadacre farming, livestock management, and machinery operating and basic maintenance experience. The position is suited to a couple who thrive on working together, are proactive in planning, and enjoy the diverse challenges of managing livestock and cropping operations in a remote setting.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, this couple will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the station, including leading seasonal cropping and livestock activities, operating and maintaining modern fleet of John Deere equipment, and contributing to a safe, productive team environment.
The Assistant Manager will assist with daily station operations with a strong focus on:
- Livestock management and herd health
- Assisting the NSW team with AI and breeding programs
- Broadacre cropping (sowing, spraying, harvesting)
- Machinery operation, maintenance, and basic mechanical work
- Seasonal planning, infrastructure upkeep of WHS records
- Utilise and maintain livestock and cropping records using progressive technology and systems
The Partner will support across:
- Basic administration support
- Domestic duties, and garden/staff quarters maintenance
- Station administration and onboarding support
- Assisting with livestock and mustering (optional)
Key Responsibilities
Assistant Manager
- Support and participate in daily livestock activities
- Lead seasonal cropping operations and programs
- Lead water runs, fencing, and machinery operations
- Assisting in mentor and training station hands
- Coordinate work across a small team, including casuals and contractors
- Operate and maintain a range of modern John Deere machinery: tractors, sprayers, headers, etc.
- Perform basic mechanical servicing and troubleshooting of plant and equipment
- Execute seasonal cropping activities: land prep, sowing, spraying, harvesting
- Support livestock operations: mustering, herd health, data recording, paddock rotations, breeding and AI programs
- Maintain accurate records of livestock movements, chemical usage, paddock history, and equipment servicing
- Implement and model safe work practices aligned with Milwillah's WHS systems
- Monitor and manage fuel, stock, and essential station supplies
Station Support (Partner)
- Assist with admin tasks and inventory management
- Maintain station grounds, gardens, and staff living areas
- Assist with domestic duties such as general cleaning
- Help onboard new staff and contribute positively to station culture
- Support livestock or mustering activities where comfortable
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience in livestock management (cattle essential)
- Demonstrated experience in broadacre farming
- Strong machinery operating skills, with the ability to lead cropping programs
- Ability to assist with machinery repairs and seasonal operations
- Familiarity with agricultural chemicals and safe handling procedures
- GPS and precision Ag experience (desirable)
- Confident leading and mentoring a team
- Excellent communication, organisation, and practical problem-solving
- Competent on two-wheel motorbikes and with farm machinery
- Strong understanding of farm safety, animal welfare, and record-keeping
- Comfortable using digital farm tools (training provided if needed)
- Driver's licence required; machinery tickets or ag qualifications a bonus
- A proactive, practical, and team-oriented mindset
- Comfortable living remotely and working both independently and with others
