The OpportunityOur client is seeking an experienced Underwriting professional to join as Team Leader, ideally with a background in property underwriting or related insurance. This role is pivotal in leading a small, high-performing team, managing day-to-day operations, and partnering with management to drive strategy, process improvement, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities Underwriting Leadership & Operations
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Set and monitor KPIs and objectives, providing regular performance feedback and development support.
- Oversee property underwriting activities, including the review of residential and commercial contracts, policy requests, and risk assessment.
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance.
- Support the design and implementation of new product offerings and automation initiatives.
- Collaborate with Sales, Claims, and Operations teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Achieve an underwriting delegation within six months of appointment.
Customer Experience & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong client relationships and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Manage client escalations and support the onboarding of new clients.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimise processes and outcomes.
- Representative at client presentations, training sessions, and industry events.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to ASIC and APRA regulatory standards, internal controls, and policies.
- Conduct and manage internal and external audit reviews.
- Maintain accurate and compliant underwriting documentation and processes.
People & Culture
- Create and support an empowered, motivated, and high-performing team.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and team development sessions.
- Promote and uphold Company's values and commitment to safety, wellbeing, and diversity.
Skills & Experience Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in underwriting, preferably within title insurance or property law.
- Proven leadership or team management experience.
- Strong customer focus and relationship management skills.
- Excellent analytical, judgement, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Desirable:
- Bachelor of Law, Conveyancing, or related qualifications.
- Certificate or Diploma in Insurance or Paralegal Studies.
- Experience in conveyancing, mortgage processing, or the wider insurance industry.
