An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech Pathologist to join our speech therapy team, teachers and other allied health professionals, working in a special school to support students with Autism. In this school-based role you should expect to:
- be supported by an experienced team of 8 speech pathologists and, more broadly, by a dynamic team of over 20 therapists (speech, OT and music)

Job Role
As a Speech Pathologist employed by Giant Steps, you will work alongside a transdisciplinary team in the classroom to develop and deliver individualised supports and programs that will enable each child to reach their full potential. The skills you will bring to the transdisciplinary team as a Speech Pathologist include:
- Assessment of individual communication needs including social, receptive and expressive skills in collaboration with the class team
- Setting appropriate, individual communication goals
- Tracking individual progress towards goals using Goal Attainment Scaling
- Development and implementation of supports and strategies related to an individual's communication needs, including the use of AAC
- Collaboration with teachers, therapists and educators to support the development and implementation of communication goals, supports and strategies
- Assess and support the literacy skills of students following a framework of best practice
- Liaising with families in relation to key communication goals, strategies and assessment
- Opportunity to support the professional learning of parents and colleagues by disseminating information through planned professional development

Criteria
Essential:
- Recognised degree in Speech Pathology
- Membership with professional association (SPAA)
- Current NSW Working With Children check and NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Interest in working with Autistic individuals
- Ability to work collaboratively in an integrated setting consisting of therapists, special educators and parents
- Flexible and adaptive thinker
- Committed to ongoing professional development and learning
