About MATES in Construction

MATES in Construction is an independent charity that exists to reduce the high rate of suicide in Australia's construction and allied industries.

Our program is designed by the industry, for the industry, built on the simple but powerful idea of mates looking after mates. We create a connected community where workers look out for each other and are equipped with the skills and confidence to recognise when someone isn't doing well — and to step in with meaningful support.

At MATES, we believe suicide prevention is everyone's business. By empowering people at every level of the industry, we're building a culture where positive mental health and wellbeing are shared responsibilities that reach beyond worksites into families, friends, and the wider community.

About the Role

We are seeking a Program and Strategy Manager to lead the delivery and growth of our MATES in Construction SA program.

Reporting to the CEO, this pivotal role oversees both the Field Services and Case Management teams — ensuring our work aligns with organisational values, strategic priorities, and operational goals.

You'll coach and develop a passionate team, foster industry and stakeholder relationships, and help drive strategic initiatives that strengthen our impact across South Australia.

Program Strategy and Delivery

  • Deliver the MATES program in alignment with our strategic plan and funding targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement, program development, and innovation.
  • Coordinate responses to critical incidents and postvention.
  • Expand regional training and engagement activities.
  • Strengthen relationships with workers, employers, unions, and government partners.

Strategic Planning and Reporting

  • Collaborate with the CEO on strategic and operational planning.
  • Promote the Blueprint for Better Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
  • Contribute to budget development and performance reporting.
  • Provide timely updates and insights to the CEO and Board.

About You

You're a values-driven leader who believes in the power of connection and community. You bring strong operational and people management experience, and you're passionate about creating mentally healthy workplaces through the mates looking after mates approach.

  • Senior First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to travel and occasionally work outside standard hours.
