What you'll be doing

The NSW Poisons Information Centre (NSWPIC) provides poisons information to the public, and toxicology advice to health professionals on the management of poisoned and envenomed patients. Telephone advice available 24/7 on is provided by pharmacists and scientists with specific training. Clinical Toxicologists provide specialist expertise in the medical management of human poisoning and envenoming.

The Deputy Director will work collaboratively with the NSWPIC Directors to provide advanced organisational and clinical leadership to ensure high quality service delivery. The incumbent will contribute to the leadership team across all areas of management including clinical practice, quality and governance, strategic planning and service development, and financial and human resource management to proactively manage risk and operational efficiencies.

The Deputy Director's primary responsibility will be to embed and lead the implementation of a clinical governance framework in accordance with required quality and accreditation standards, including the identification of quality improvement opportunities arising from patient safety and quality reviews undertaken by NSWPIC. The position requires the application of clinical practice and evidence-based approaches to service planning, development, and provision.

The Deputy Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships, and will have a lead role in the ongoing development of the Australasian PIC standards to enhance collaborative and resourced clinical and operational practices. The position will work closely with the Directors and portfolio leads to promote best practice through enhancement of clinical quality and safety, communication and media, education and training, evidence-based practice and guidelines, information systems, public health and research in alignment with the strategic direction of the department.

The Deputy Director will be required to work after hours shifts and contribute to the 24/7 Specialist in Poisons Information (SPI) roster, providing clinical information to both health professionals (particularly doctors, nurses, paramedics) and the general public via the telephone regarding the assessment and treatment of poisoning cases, drug queries and bites and stings.
