The Role

As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.

Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.

Moderna is solidifying its presence in Clayton, Melbourne —home to one of our state-of-the-art manufacturing sites within the Australia network. As a critical hub in our global supply chain, the Clayton site plays a pivotal role in the production of mRNA medicines, supporting rapid and scalable delivery to patients worldwide. We're seeking passionate professionals to join us in Clayton to help shape the future of advanced biologics manufacturing and drive impact at the intersection of innovation and medicine.

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Manager, Planning to join our Clayton manufacturing site. Reporting to the Director, Site Supply Chain Leader, this individual will play a critical role in managing planning processes that ensure smooth and efficient production of Moderna's mRNA-based medicines. This is an opportunity to collaborate closely with global and site-based stakeholders to influence and optimize the production plan, site capacity, and material availability. The successful candidate will bring both strategic thinking and operational execution to a high-impact role with visibility across the end-to-end supply chain. This role is central to ensuring the site delivers on its commitments with agility and precision—while also building deeper connectivity into advanced tools like SAP/APO and exploring opportunities aligned with Generative AI innovations in planning.

Here's What You'll Do
Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead weekly and monthly planning processes within the site, driving key discussions with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Translate the tactical planning input from Global Supply Chain into actionable, site-specific production plans.
  • Oversee short-term production, release, and supply plans, ensuring potential delays or risks are flagged and resolved proactively.
  • Monitor site capacity over the tactical horizon for Drug Substance (DS), proposing optimization aligned with S&OP requirements.
  • Support the creation of a valid, risk-aware production plan and lead preparation for its monthly review.
  • Maintain planning master data and parameters in SAP/APO in partnership with master data management and global SC.

Your Responsibilities Will Also Include

  • Collaborate with warehouse operations and site SC leadership to ensure supply priorities and customer service levels are met.
  • Ensure global supply chain standards are applied and sustained locally within the planning function.
  • Support material availability oversight with the Global Material Planning team on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Measure and report on key performance metrics including on-time supply to plan, inventory vs. targets, and critical materials performance.
  • Apply root cause analysis to resolve recurring supply chain planning challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to site planning processes and systems integration.

The key Moderna Mindsets you'll need to succeed in the role:

  • "We obsess over learning. We don't have to be the smartest we have to learn the fastest." This role requires rapid acquisition and application of new planning tools and techniques, especially as Moderna explores next-generation capabilities such as Generative AI in supply chain operations.
  • "We behave like owners. The solutions we're building go beyond any job description." You will be empowered to take full accountability for the site's planning success, stepping beyond standard tasks to shape how planning performance impacts Moderna's broader operational excellence.

Here's What You'll Bring To The Table

  • BS/BA in Supply Chain, Science or Economics/Finance with 10 years' experience.
  • 6+ years' experience as a Production Planner within Biotech, Pharma or other related batch production manufacturing environments. DS manufacturing Site experience strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience with SAP MPS and MRP
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM and CSCP accreditations preferred.
  • Working knowledge of site supply chain processes including demand management, S&OP, production planning, capacity planning, material planning and procurement, order fulfilment, master data and life-cycle management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, at all levels, in a complex environment with matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across boundaries (functional and cultural) and form effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Customer and business focused – determined to deliver successful outcomes in a cost-effective way.
  • Demonstrated change management and process management experience is preferred: demonstrated usage of data to drive process improvements.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • As part of Moderna's commitment to workplace health and safety, this role may be subject to pre-employment and periodic medical assessments, in line with relevant legal and operational requirements.
