Public Participation Department
About the Role
Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL) is seeking a motivated and collaborative leader to oversee the delivery of high-quality library services across our outreach service points, including mobile libraries, community hubs and home library service. The Outreach Services Manager provides strategic direction and operational leadership to ensure outreach services are welcoming, accessible and responsive to community needs—particularly for those who experience barriers to participation.
This role plays a key part in advancing YPRL's vision of informed, connected and inclusive communities. You'll lead a skilled and motivated team, manage service delivery standards and compliance, foster strong relationships with community partners and member councils, and ensure outreach services continue to evolve to meet emerging opportunities.
Service Delivery
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across outreach services.
- Manage and support staff and volunteers to deliver engaging, high-quality customer experiences, across a geographically distributed area.
- Identify opportunities to grow outreach services and programs for underserved and socially isolated communities.
- Collaborate with the Collections Team to curate and maintain collections that reflect and respond to the needs and interests of communities served through outreach service points and mobile libraries.
- Oversee compliance with all relevant vehicle, safety and operational requirements.
Build partnerships with local organisations, aged care providers, schools and council departments to strengthen outreach impact.
Contribute to the planning, evaluation and continuous improvement of service delivery, programs and collections.
About you
The successful candidate will hold a degree in Library and Information Management or a related field such as Community Development, along with relevant professional experience.
Ideally, you will have a proven track record of success within a library environment and a strong understanding of how libraries operate within the local government context. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to provide strategic advice in the planning and development of outreach library services.
Excellent communication, advocacy, and liaison skills are essential, as is the capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with library users and a broad range of community groups.
Strong leadership qualities are also required, including the ability to motivate, influence, and develop team members.
Why YPRL?
YPRL serves three member councils (Banyule City Council, City of Whittlesea and Nillumbik Shire Council) and a diverse population across Melbourne's north-east. Our outreach network connects people where they live, learn and gather — making this role ideal for someone passionate about community connection and library services.
