About the Role

As a Project Manager, you will have oversight and responsibility for delivering key strategic and business improvement projects for a Queensland State Government client. You will manage stakeholder relations, provide analysis, and offer sound advice to leadership teams. Your project management expertise will be crucial in ensuring projects meet milestones, mitigate risks, and keep all parties informed about progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead key ICT projects such as Essential 8 uplift and Identity and Access Management uplift.
  • Prepare project briefs and manage project scoping.
  • Direct and coordinate technical resources to meet objectives and ensure project completion.
  • Prioritise, allocate, and coordinate project activities and escalate risks/issues to relevant parties.
  • Identify risks and gaps impacting project scope, timeframes, resourcing, or costs, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Adhere to project tolerances and communicate/escalate deviations related to schedule, scope, budget, etc.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Monitor project progress, update schedules, resolve issues, and publish progress reports.
  • Prepare and report project status to stakeholders, including program-level reports to project executives.
  • Delegate tasks to project team members, initiative leads, and business units.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to coordinate cross-stream activities.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure contractual milestones are met.

Desirable Criteria

  • Certifications in Prince2, MSP, or 5+ years of experience in project/program management.
  • Experience managing technology projects, including Identity Management, Data Loss Prevention, Essential 8 compliance, and Business recovery.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly for Queensland Government contexts.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and multitasking capabilities.
  • Experience with project management software tools, including MS Project.
  • Experience in writing briefing notes, procurement processes, and presentations.
  • Experience working within government or legal/policy departments is highly desirable.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven IT project management experience, particularly in scope development, project proposal preparation, and change management.
  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills with the ability to analyse and integrate diverse information.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage competing expectations.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in managing technical teams, scheduling, and planning to ensure project success.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing professional reports and project documents.
