We are seeking a Fixed Asset Accountant - Temporary to join our Corporate Finance Team within our Finance & Business Performance Division.

  • Base salary up to $95000 plus Superannuation depending on experience

The Opportunity

As the Fixed Asset Accountant - Temporary you will report to the Senior Financial Accountant and be primarily responsible for assisting in the management of Hunter Water's fixed assets registers and providing capital project governance & support.

What you'll do:

  • Assist with the management of Hunter Water's three fixed asset registers (accounting, taxation and regulatory), ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Preparation of month-end journals, adjustments, reconciliations and reporting of fixed asset information.
  • Assist with the timely additions of capital assets, including the processing of developer asset additions and retirements.
  • Support the administrative function of capital projects including the review and processing of opening, closing and amending projects
  • Support the review of capital project work-in-progress.
  • Compliance and ongoing review of all processes and systems identifying improvements and efficiency gains where appropriate. This includes providing support to ongoing improvement initiatives of the fixed asset function.
  • Engage with all areas of business to ensure efficient and effective fixed asset management practices at Hunter Water.
  • Assist with the preparation of Hunter Water's internal and external reporting requirements associated with fixed assets
  • Develop, maintain and review fixed asset policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and mentoring for other members of the finance team in relation to policy and processes relating to the fixed asset registers.

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial business principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven workplace and to effectively manage challenges and changing priorities whilst still meeting team and corporate deadlines
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and demonstrate a high level of self-motivation.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in management of a fixed asset register
  • CPA or CA designation or working towards designation
  • Experience using enterprise resource system in a corporate environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, accounting policies and practices
