The Opportunity

Transgrid is seeking a General Manager, Operations & Maintenance, to shape the strategic direction, resilience and long-term performance of our high-voltage electricity transmission and telecommunications networks. This is a critical senior leadership role, responsible for overseeing real-time network operations, asset management, and the delivery of critical maintenance programs that underpin Australia's energy security.

Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager, Delivery you will play a central role in driving Transgrid's transformation agenda, championing innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. This is a rare opportunity to influence the future of Australia's energy landscape at a time of unprecedented transformation.

 
Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and execute a forward-looking Operations & Maintenance strategy that enhances asset reliability, operational performance, and customer outcomes.
  • Lead the planning and optimisation of maintenance programs across substations, transmission lines, cables, and digital infrastructure to maximise efficiency and field productivity.
  • Oversee real-time operations, crisis response, and contingency planning in collaboration with AEMO and other critical stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement across core operational processes, including network monitoring, asset lifecycle management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a senior ambassador for Transgrid, engaging with regulators, industry bodies, and executive forums to shape the future of energy infrastructure.

  • Extensive executive experience in managing complex, high-voltage electricity networks or similarly scaled infrastructure systems.
  • Proven success in leading large, multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-impact operational outcomes.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to influence strategic direction at the executive level.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, planning authorities, and industry governance.
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, asset management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
