Manager Safety & Assurance Greater Newcastle / Hunter Valley (Singleton / Muswellbrook)

Contract Details:

  • Start: 1 December 2025
  • End: 31 March 2026 (possible extension)
  • Hours: 35 per week (7 per day)
  • Work Type: Hybrid – site, office, and up to 2 days WFH
  • $1,000 per day + super

We're seeking an experienced Manager Safety & Assurance to support WHS compliance across major road and infrastructure projects in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley regions. This is a hybrid role involving site inspections, office-based work, and limited work-from-home flexibility.

About the Role

You will lead safety assurance activities across multiple project sites, ensuring WHS compliance, providing expert advice to project teams, and supporting the development of Safety Management Systems. The role requires significant travel across remote locations and highways, and involves working autonomously to plan and execute site visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site assurance audits for WHS compliance across road and infrastructure works.
  • Prepare and deliver reporting requirements for WHS assurance.
  • Provide WHS advice and support to project teams.
  • Assist with Safety Management System (SMS) development.
  • Perform drug and alcohol testing as required.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE onsite.
  • Travel to multiple and remote project locations for inspections.

Key Challenges

  • Coordinating across multiple stakeholder groups with differing priorities.
  • Managing logistics and travel to remote project sites.
  • Operating in a self-directed role, planning and executing work independently.
  • Working within short project windows (typically 1 week, with possibility of extension).

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum).
  • Construction White Card (mandatory).
  • Highly regarded additional quals:
  • Training & Assessment
  • WHS/Systems Auditing
  • Environmental credentials
  • ICAM or equivalent incident investigation training

Essential Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years' WHS assurance experience in construction (road/infrastructure preferred).
  • Strong communication, influencing, and negotiation capability.
  • IT proficiency suited to large infrastructure project environments.
  • Valid Class C driver's licence (mandatory).
  • Strong knowledge of road construction and infrastructure methodologies.
  • Advantageous experience:
  • Traffic management/control
  • Electrical project environments
  • Local knowledge of Newcastle/Hunter Valley highly desirable (Muswellbrook, Singleton).
