Principal Policy Officer

As the Principal Policy Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Queensland's approach to koala conservation. Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading the development and implementation of the South East Queensland Koala Conservation Strategy.
• Preparing evidence-based legislative solutions for koala conservation, with a focus on Queensland's land use planning framework.
• Managing and coordinating complex projects to completion, including establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and securing executive and government approvals.
• Engaging with stakeholders to build strong relationships and negotiate outcomes that support conservation goals.
• Applying key legislative principles to develop effective policy responses.
• Delivering high-quality written communication products, including sensitive materials and professional advice, while coordinating internal and external stakeholder meetings.
• Supporting DETSI's commitment to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion.
About You
We are seeking a talented and experienced policy professional with expertise in conservation and land use planning. To succeed in this role, you will:
• Role model Individual Contributor leadership behaviours as outlined in the Leadership Competencies for Queensland.
• Demonstrate a high-level ability to research and critically analyse environmental policy issues to identify legislative solutions that are evidence-based and fit for purpose.
• Have extensive experience in managing and coordinating projects, including stakeholder engagement and negotiations.
• Possess strong skills in applying legislative concepts and principles to develop policy responses.
• Communicate efficiently and effectively, delivering quality written materials and facilitating productive stakeholder engagement.
