About the role

We are seeking an experienced and talented Head Chef to join our team at Matilda 159 Domain, a renowned restaurant located in the heart of South Yarra, Victoria. As our Head Chef, you will be responsible for leading our kitchen and ensuring the delivery of exceptional dining experiences for our guests. This is a full-time position based in our South Yarra restaurant.

What you'll be doing

  1. Overseeing all aspects of the kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, and quality control
  2. Collaborating with the management team to develop innovative and seasonally inspired menus that showcase our commitment to fresh, locally-sourced ingredients
  3. Mentoring and managing a team of skilled kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment
  4. Ensuring strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards
  5. Monitoring and controlling food and labour costs to maintain profitability
  6. Representing the restaurant at industry events and engaging with the local culinary community

What we're looking for

  1. Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Head Chef or in a similar senior culinary role, preferably in a high-end restaurant setting and experience with cooking over fire
  2. Proven track record of leading and motivating a kitchen team to deliver exceptional food quality and customer service
  3. Excellent knowledge of food preparation techniques, food safety, and inventory management
  4. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work well under pressure
  5. Passion for creating innovative, delicious dishes that showcase seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the management team
