About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced
HSE Specialist
to join our growing team and play a pivotal role in shaping the group HSE function of our business. Reporting directly to the HSE Manager, this senior position will support a small but dedicated team of field HSE Advisors while providing strategic and operational HSE support to our Construction teams.
This is a leadership role with real impact—where you'll combine strategic oversight with hands-on involvement to embed a strong safety culture across our projects. Primarily based in Brisbane, this role includes
occasional travel to project sites
. The amount of travel will depend on project requirements and can be scheduled with consideration for your time away from home.
In This Role, You Will
- Collaborate closely with field HSE Advisors and Construction management teams.
- Oversee the implementation, assist in the development and review HSEQ plans, policies and processes to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Take ownership of contract reviews, ensuring alignment with organisational HSE objectives and obligations.
- Lead and participate in the audits, including internal and external audits, and ensure effective action plans are developed and implemented.
- Provide training and support related to HSEQ processes, systems to construction teams.
- Lead and conduct incident investigations, analysing root causes and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to HSEQ compliance and incident investigation.
- Monitor and report on HSEQ performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
- Facilitate communication between field teams and management regarding HSEQ issues and initiatives.
About You
- Minimum 7+ years' experience in HSE, within construction, mining, or industrial sectors, with onsite exposure and experience in high-risk operations.
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety as a minimum.
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment desirable.
- Competency in issuing work permits (or willingness to obtain) and experience as a permit authority/issuer.
- Qualification in incident root cause analysis (ICAM, TapRoot).
- General Construction Induction Card.
- Open, unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 standards.
- OFSC experience desirable
- Experience leading audits and implementing corrective actions - desirable.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HSEQ software.
