Gosford Musical Society (GMS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Shop Manager to oversee the operations of our Costume Hire Shop. This is a unique opportunity to combine retail management with creativity, supporting both the community and the arts.

About the Role

As Shop Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the costume shop, ensuring a seamless experience for our customers while driving sales and supporting GMS productions. You will lead a small team, curate and maintain a diverse costume collection, and help foster a welcoming and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shop operations, including rostering and staff management
  • Curate, launder, and maintain costumes for public and business hire
  • Develop and implement sales strategies to meet revenue targets
  • Manage stock levels and inventory controls
  • Ensure timely payment for all hires
  • Plan and deliver promotional events and customer engagement activities
  • Provide leadership in recruiting, training, and motivating staff
  • Maintain a professional online presence through social media and website updates
  • Collaborate with GMS productions to provide costumes, advice, and creative support
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and workplace safety standards
  • Deliver monthly reports on sales, performance, and expenses

About You

We are looking for a motivated, organised, and customer-focused individual with proven retail or shop management experience. You will have excellent communication and leadership skills, a flair for creativity, and a passion for providing exceptional service. Experience in the arts, theatre, or costume design is highly regarded but not essential.
