Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia's largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group's main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Play a strategic role in shaping and delivering people safety programs across Qantas Airlines
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in health, safety, and wellbeing
  • Full-time permanent position based at our head office in Mascot, Sydney

We've always been pioneers, and we're proud to see that spirit in our people today. Our resilience has helped us through good and tough times, and it still drives us to keep pushing the challenging expectations today.

We're committed to providing a safe and injury-free workplace through world-class safety practices, integrating operational safety into all our business activities. Change is seen as an opportunity to improve. We thrive on uncertainty, and are ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. As a team, we rally together like no other, making each other feel supported, included and valued.

As the Senior Manager People Safety Programs and Performance, you'll lead the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety (WHS) programs across Qantas Airlines – including Cabin Crew, Engineering, Global Airports, Lounges, and Freight Operations. Reporting to the Head of People Safety, you'll focus on injury prevention, musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk management, psychosocial initiatives, and performance oversight and reporting. Your leadership will be key to embedding a proactive safety culture, driving standardisation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Group Safety strategies.

In this highly collaborative role, you'll work closely with the various business units and Group Safety functions to deliver specialised people safety programs, support injury management and prevention activities, and provide assurance and governance. You'll use data-driven insights to identify emerging risks, influence senior stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 10+ years' experience in WHS leadership roles, ideally within aviation or other complex environments
  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS, Allied Health, or related fields
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, program delivery, and managing diverse business objectives
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence positive outcomes at all levels
  • Deep knowledge of WHS legislation, aviation safety standards, and best practice frameworks for MSD and psychosocial risk
  • Skilled in data analysis, risk profiling, and decision-making
  • Excellent communication and leadership across teams and functions
  • High proficiency in training and human factors programs
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence
