The George Hotel is a historic and vibrant hospitality venue located in the heart of Ballarat offering cafe, bistro, events, wine bar, bars and accommodation offerings, serving as a central hub for locals. The venue is locally owned with a strong reputation for excellence and community engagement.

The Role

As Venue Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of The George Hotel across multiple service areas. With a strong focus on creativity and innovation, you will be supported to develop new and exciting offerings playing a key role returning The George Hotel to prominence for locals and tourists alike.

In this hands-on role you will work on shift, alongside the team, leading, training and setting the tone for standards in customer service and teamwork while driving a positive culture in line with your own passion and customer centric values.

The Venue Manager is also responsible for daily operational requirements, including systems, processes and profitability. You will be empowered to enact operational changes and improvements that improve efficiency and outcomes for both customers and team members.

You will also monitor profitability through strategic rostering, stock control, sales and promotions working with the General Manager to identify opportunities to improve overall business performance. You'll work closely with Management to ensure effective planning and preparation, smooth delivery and a positive customer experience is enjoyed.

Tuesday to Thursday, 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday arvo/night shifts, public holidays. Flexibility required during busy periods.

Additional duties & requirements

  • Drive sales, manage budgets, and boost venue profitability
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing
  • Monitor stock levels and supplier relationships
  • Handle customer feedback with professionalism and care
  • Maintain venue presentation and uphold brand standards

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing a hospitality venue or large team
  • Strong interpersonal skills — Greet regulars by name, attract clientele and build on relationships
  • Experience coaching and mentoring team members at all levels
  • Strategic thinker with solid financial and business acumen
  • Experience in rostering systems, POS, inventory, and supplier management
  • RSA certification (essential), First Aid and Food Safety (preferred), RSG, Gaming license
