With Kennards Hire You Can
As a company that's been around since 1948, we know what matters most: family and it's at the heart of everything we do. We're the largest family-owned equipment hire company in Australia and New Zealand, with more than 2,000 team members located at over 200 sites and branches. Our mission is clear: we want to be the best hire company in the world. We're committed to growing sustainably and innovating in ways that benefit our people, our customers and our business. And at the end of the day, we're all focused on delivering what we say we will do – make our customers' jobs easy.
About the role
As our Business Development Manager, you'll be the driving force behind growth across the ACT region — expanding our reach and strengthening Kennards Hire's position as the partner of choice for projects big and small.
Your focus spans a wide customer base from Tier 1 through to Tier 4, uncovering and developing opportunities across all industry channels, with a core emphasis on the building and construction sector. This is a role for someone who can build trust fast, think commercially, and turn conversations into long-term partnerships.
You'll leverage your understanding of the industry to open doors, influence decision-makers, and deliver smart, solutions-driven outcomes that help our customers get the job done.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and engage key decision-makers across target accounts and industry sectors
- Build long-term, trusted relationships with customers across all tiers
- Develop and execute tailored sales strategies to achieve growth targets
- Manage a strong pipeline of qualified new business opportunities
- Provide input on pricing, revenue forecasting, and market insights
- Represent the Kennards Hire brand at key industry events and customer meetings
- Travel across the ACT region as required to support business development
About You
You're a natural connector — commercially sharp, people-savvy, and driven by results. You thrive in environments where relationships matter and where every conversation is a chance to uncover an opportunity.
You'll bring a strong understanding of the building and construction industry (or similar field), backed by experience working with Tier 1–4 customers. You know what good looks like when it comes to pipeline management, customer engagement, and delivering tailored solutions that add real value.
You'll also have:
- Proven success in business development, account management, or sales roles
- Confidence working with a mix of corporate, trade, and project-based customers
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills — you know how to influence outcomes
- A proactive mindset — you don't wait for opportunities, you create them
- A collaborative approach — you value teamwork and shared success
Join our team

Once you walk through our door, we'll back you all the way with the tools and resources you'll need to succeed. You'll be trusted as part of our family, supported to lead in many ways and have opportunities to develop and grow your expertise.
There's also a great range of employee benefits and rewards on offer including:
- All the training and development you need to build a successful career with us
- Pathways to pursue your career, nationally and internationally
