Become part of a fast growing disability and community nursing organisation committed to supporting individuals living with a disability to meet their individual goals.  We require Support Carer for SIL and Community environments, particularly when working with individuals with complex trauma, mental health and dementia. Permanent part-time roles are available.

We have SIL houses across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter.

Support Worker, under the guidance of House Coordinators and the Service Manager, are responsible for working directly with people with disabilities to undertake personal, community and  daily living activities. These activities are designed to assist the individual in building their individual, family and community based capacity to improve daily lives, build capacity and improve relationships..

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with clients (and relevant stakeholders such as their family members and the Disability Carer Coordinator) in the development of their individualized Care Plan;
  • Assist clients to undertake a range of daily living activities, such as attending appointments, shopping, engaging in community and social activities;
  • Assist clients to undertake personal and self-care activities, such as showering, dressing and eating;
  • Assist clients to undertake domestic responsibilities in their home, such as cooking, cleaning and managing their household duties;
  • Assist clients who have high physical needs and/or behaviours of concern.
  • Support clients to use their preferred method of communication and assist them to be understood, listened to and responded at all times; and

Provide companionship, support and build mutually respectful relationships with clients

Essential Criteria

  1. Police check, Working with Children Check, current First Aid, Driver's license, and NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission Worker Orientation Module certificate.
  2. Ability to work as a team with minimal supervision.
  3. Basic understanding of Outlook and other IT software.
  4. Access to smart phone
  5. Access to a fully insured vehicle

Desired Criteria

  1. Completed or currently undergoing a Certificate III, IV, Diploma in Disabilities, Youth Work, Community Services, Psychology, Social Work and/or other relevant studies, or the wiliness to undertake studies
  2. Previous experience in working with people living with a disability, mental health concerns or other relevant experience.
