Bluey's World

The Assistant Stage Manager (Swing) supports the delivery of the Bluey's World Experience by coordinating rehearsals, performances, and cast logistics across various roles, including Puppeteer, Chaperone, and Gardener as required.

This role ensures smooth show operations through cue calling, performer communication, and coordination between Technical, Front of House, and Performance teams. Responsibilities include managing schedules, assisting with sound checks and costumes, responding to show stops, and maintaining performer and audience safety.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and engage with cast in a supportive, professional, and kind manner. They must be adaptable, able to work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and respond to changing circumstances with confidence.

The ASM represents the Bluey brand with professionalism and positivity, upholds WHS standards, and supports the Experience Manager in maintaining seamless daily operations. A valid QLD Blue Card is required, and First Aid certification is desirable.

Primary Responsibilities

Rehearsal and Show Coordination

• Schedule and coordinate rehearsals for the Bluey's World Experience team, including Experience Hosts, Suit Performers, Puppeteers, and Chaperones.
• Call cues during performances and ensure smooth technical and production flow during live events.
• Communicate with Front of House (FOH) regarding guests with additional requirements, large groups, or notable needs.
• In consultation with the Experience Manager, ensure performers receive updated daily run sheets.
• Liaise with performers and FOH Supervisors to cue performance start times.
• Maintain the show schedule and advise all teams of any changes or delays.
• Be on standby to assist during any show-stop scenarios, supporting Technical, FOH, and Cast teams.
• Assist FOH with latecomers or patrons who need to be reunited with their groups.
• Act as the key contact for performers at the start of house, providing support and addressing questions.
• Mic performers and conduct sound checks as required.
• Report technical issues promptly to the Show Operator and Site Team.
• Notify cleaning teams when spaces are free for cleaning.
• Maintain the cast holding space near FOH and restock essential items (e.g., tissues, water, makeup).
• Assist with costume coordination as required.
• For VIP or special sessions, confirm details with FOH Supervisors and/or the Experience Manager and communicate any adjustments to performers (e.g., private functions, sensory sessions).
• Perform other duties as required.

Swing Puppeteer Duties

• Learn all necessary puppetry material required for Bluey's World, including:
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Bluey brand.
• Suit Character Performer resources and guidelines.
• Archival footage and scripts.
• Maintain high performance standards in puppetry, contributing to the immersive nature of Bluey's World.
• Assist with the reset of sets, props, and costumes as required.

Swing Chaperone Duties

The primary responsibility of a Chaperone is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Suit Character Performers. This includes assisting with dressing, transporting performers safely on and off stage, managing guest interactions, and maintaining costume cleanliness.

• Learn all necessary Chaperoning material required for Bluey's World, including:
• Sound knowledge of the Bluey brand.
• Suit Character Performer resources and guidelines.
• Archival footage and scripts.
• Prioritise accessibility for all patrons through clear communication and assistance.
• Maintain the safety of both performers and patrons during all sessions.
• Ensure Suit Character costumes remain clean and protected during and after Meet & Greet sessions.
• Maintain a friendly yet firm approach to health and safety in all guest interaction areas.

Swing Gardener Duties

The Gardener supports audience engagement through games, activities, and narrative participation within the Bluey's World Experience. Gardeners guide patrons through the venue, maintaining radio communication with team members. This role embodies warmth, kindness, and a helpful spirit.

• Prioritise accessibility and safety for all patrons through clear communication and guidance.
• Maintain a safe environment for both audience and cast throughout the shift.
• Uphold a friendly but firm approach to health and safety within performance spaces.

General Duties

• Communicate any workplace or HR concerns to the Experience Manager and assist in resolving issues.
• Maintain a positive and approachable attitude in all interactions while on shift.
• Represent the Bluey brand with diplomacy, discretion, and professionalism at all times.
• Exercise discretion and respect when referring to the event, sponsors, and partnerships.
• Adhere to the company's Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy.
• Undertake any reasonable tasks required for the smooth running of Bluey's World Brisbane.
• Represent AKM, HVK, Bluey's World, and all key stakeholders while adhering to and executing the production schedule.
• Maintain high workplace safety standards in line with WHS legislation.
• Report any risks promptly to the Experience Manager or Site Manager.
• Install and use the Deputy scheduling app for all shift management.
• Arrive punctually for shifts and ensure accurate sign-in/out procedures.
• Operate with strong organisational skills and confidence in a fast-paced environment.

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with the Experience Manager, Creative Director, Technical Director, Producer, and other key team members to ensure seamless coordination of rehearsals and performances.

Training and Safety

• Assist in creating training documentation to support ongoing cast development.
• Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current First Aid qualification.
• Remain aware of health and safety protocols across rehearsal and performance spaces, ensuring a safe working environment for all.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

Desirable Skills

• Puppetry experience and training; ability to bring characters to life.
• Experience chaperoning or supporting Suit Character Performers.
• Background in children's entertainment or educational settings.
• Multilingual communication abilities.
• Familiarity with AV, lighting, and sound systems in immersive experiences.
• Current First Aid and/or CPR qualification.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $35.15 – $49.21 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 38 per week
