Melbourne, Victoria, Australia SD Laboratories Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

About SD Laboratories

SD Laboratories works with Physiotherapy clinics under the guidance of CEO Dr Prateek Bando, Prof. Tony Goldschlager (Neurosurgeon) and Peter Allen (Head Physiotherapist).

There is great potential for physiotherapists to treat chronic pain by treating sleep.

The aim of SD Laboratories is to put into clinical Physiotherapy practice, research that shows poor quality sleep (often due to a sleep disorder like obstructive sleep apnoea or Insomnia) increases the brain's sensitivity to pain and increases whole body inflammation.  Research further shows that treating concurrent sleep disorders in patients with chronic pain, and ensuring proper body support in bed, can significantly reduce pain severity and pain sensitivity in patients with chronic pain.

For patients with residual pain, despite maximal physiotherapy care, treating sleep can make a profound difference to quality of life, and help reduce the need for more risky invasive pain reduction strategies.

This holistic treatment option shows great potential to empower physiotherapists to achieve better pain reduction for their patients.

We are now working with Physiotherapy clinics and clinicians to implement an evidence-informed model of care that puts into place interventions aimed at improving sleep quality to reduce pain into regular Physiotherapy practice. This is called the Recovery Improvement through Sleep to Ease pain (RISE) program.

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and organised In-Clinic Sleep and Pain Program Coordinator to support clinics to roll out this program for patients. This role is open to flexible hours depending on your availability.

This role will provide on-site support and drive patient engagement to adopt the program as a pain reduction trial, guiding clinic administrative staff to be able to administer the program and to support physiotherapists with ensuring patients who undertake the trial are properly supported.  The role is similar to a person who supports clinical trial participants to ensure successful recruitment of patients into trials.

The ideal candidate will be excited to meet the challenges of implementing this world first program on the ground in Physiotherapy clinics. They will be excited to tell patients about the program, give them information about pain and sleep and assist them to fill in questionnaires and direct them to the next steps of the program process. The candidate will be able to successfully think through administrative challenges in clinics to ensure the successful adoption of the program by the clinic - such as by working with the clinic to ensure good administrative processes for reception and nursing staff. The candidate will work closely with our clinics relations team, as well as our Physiotherapist educators and will move clinic to clinic as more clinics adopt the program, ensuring successful patient outcomes.

An exciting part of the job will be achieving meaningful outcomes for patients with chronic pain and educating physiotherapists and clinic administrative staff in this new area of clinical care that focuses on the connection between sleep and pain.

Your Responsibilities

On-site implementation support:

  • Travel to clinics to assist with the launch and early phase of the RISE program.

  • Admin support:

  • Help clinic staff understand and execute RISE program

  • Patient engagement:

  • Assist in driving patient engagement through explaining the questionnaires, providing information, answering questions and supporting clinic staff in communicating RISE program mission and steps

  • Feedback & reporting:

  • Collect feedback from clinic staff and patients during the implementation phase and report key findings to the Clinic Relations team

Your Experience

  • You have supported clinical trials in the past
  • You enjoy helping patients with pain
  • You are process driven, excited by administering things well and you will enjoy teaching others
  • Experience in clinic environment and clinic patient management software is a bonus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Comfortable with admin tools and basic technology (Google Sheets, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and travel between clinic locations - a person that enjoys travelling both local and interstate
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and confident in front of groups
  • If you are passionate about health sciences, this is a very exciting place to work - with highly experienced, friendly, passionate people, on a mission to change physiotherapy practice for the world

If the above resonates with you, apply now by sending in your resume and a short cover letter. In your cover letter, tell us if you have any background in science, sleep, physio, or pain treatment. We'd also love to hear if you've played sports, worked as an athlete or PT, or have experience in a medical, nursing, or physio setting.
