The Planning and Land Services Group in the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) brings together land, property, statutory planning, building and heritage capability to deliver whole of state services. The Group's focus is to provide services in land administration, property information and facilitating the better use of government owned land.

About the Role

*This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2026*

This internship is within the Land and Property Division of DTP which provides authoritative and comprehensive advice and service delivery across the land lifecycle. This includes land acquisition, property management and sales related services. The role is within the Property Systems Team (PST), a team of system and data support officers who ensure property systems operate efficiently, align with business needs and support data-driven decision-making, whilst collaborating with stakeholders to enhance system functionality, drive data integrity and increase reporting capabilities and data usage across the Division. The Intern - Data Project Support Officer's main responsibility will work in the Property Systems Team to support the Division and is involved in administering key systems. The role provides essential administrative support, analyses data to generate insights into divisional operations, and contributes to the delivery of projects aimed at improving processes, tools, and systems within the division.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Project Support - provide administrative support across the division to enable the successful and timely delivery of projects and services including reporting, records management, archiving, procurement, data entry.
  • Insight and trend analysis - quality analysis including trend analysis to better inform decision making and future activity planning.
  • Quality Writing - Produces quality guidance material, briefings, reports, analysis and proposals in alignment with best-practice approaches and relevant legislation.
  • System Administration - divisional systems are being effectively managed maintained and continuously improved through timely user management, data management, problem solving, audit, enhancement scoping and testing, monthly reporting and training.
  • In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in the role the ideal candidate will be analytical, tech-savvy, and adaptable. They will use data to draw meaningful insights and understand key digital tools like Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams to support project delivery. They will show awareness of digital trends, apply sound judgment to business processes, and maintain accurate project records. They will stay open to new ideas, learn quickly, and adjust to changing priorities to achieve quality outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Currently studying a relevant undergraduate or post-graduate tertiary degree
  • Relevant degrees include: Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite

Desirable

  • Introductory skills in SQL, Python, Power BI or related program
  • Understanding of data integrity principles, including accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance in structured datasets.
