Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that is dedicated to delivering quality specialist Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Housing and Homeless and other services to meet the needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) People and their families. Our services operate across Victoria.
The Job
The APRAP Private rental broker role generates private rental access opportunities and capacity to maintain tenancies, rather than direct client support. For example, the role includes advocating for at risk tenancies and negotiating payment plans: building relationships with real estate agents and landlords: ensuring eligible households are receiving relevant government concessions and payments: and building relationships with housing and homelessness services in the local area to ensure better access to resources for Aboriginal households. The APRAP Broker position works closely with he APRAP Plus Case worker.
Work with the APRAP Plus worker to provide clients with the following outcomes;
- Improved access to affordable and appropriate private rental housing
- Support to sustain tenancies, improve their rental history and transition between tenancies
- Assistance tailored to their needs, based on evidence of what works
- Diversion of at-risk households from homelessness crisis and transitional services
- Rapid re-entry to the private rental market for households who are homelessness, and
- Improved capacity to maintain stable housing.
Data Management
• Maintaining accurate and up to date client records and case notes in the client's file
• Maintain a high standard of professionalism including client confidentiality
General Duties
• Be available to take up additional responsibility as directed by the CEO
• Attend meetings as required
General Education and Training
• Participate in individual/group clinical supervision sessions
• Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) evaluation
Health & Safety
• Work in a healthy and safe manner and encourage others to do the same.
• Be aware of and adhere to OH&S and Health & Wellbeing policies and procedures
Teamwork and Agency Representation
• Maintain team boundaries and confidentiality in a professional manner
• Interact collaboratively within the team and actively participate in team meetings

Your Skills & Experience
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community
- A demonstrated understanding of the issues associated with homelessness and their effects on the Aboriginal Community
- Demonstrated skills in case management, including referral pathways and community, stakeholder and support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team
- Skills in working independently, with initiative and as a team member
- Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, purpose and core values of the organisation.
- Able to develop positive relationships with clients and work within a stressful environment
- Demonstrate commitment to the care and support of homeless and disadvantaged men, women, youth and families
Mandatory Requirements:
- Victorian Driver's License
- National Police Certificate (no older than 3 months).
- Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
